  • 54 percent of men were married in 2013, down 5.5 percentage points from 59.9 percent in 1993 
  • 34.4 percent of men had never married in 2013, up 4.1 percentage points from 30.3 percent in 1993 
  • 51.5 percent of women were married in 2013, down 4.9 percentage points from 56.4 percent in 1993 
  • 24 percent of women had never married in 2013, up 4.5 percentage points from 19.5 percent in 1993 

“It is standard that a married man should have income. Married men who lose access to income increase probability of getting divorced. The chances of ever getting married are slim for never-married men with no income”

  • 97.7 percent of married men had income in 2013, down 1.1 percentage points from 98.8 percent in 1993 
  • 72.2 percent of never-married men had income in 2013, down 5.8 percentage points from 78 percent in 1993 
  • 91.6 percent of divorced men had income in 2013, down 7.4 percentage points from 99 percent in 1993 
  • 87.1 percent of married women had income in 2013, down 5.5 percentage points from 92.6 percent in 1993 
  • 70.2 percent of never-married women had income in 2013, down 6.1 percentage points from 76.3 percent in 1993 
  • 96.1 percent of divorced women had income in 2013, down 3.7 percentage points from 99.8 percent in 1993
